Super Terrific Happy Day Highlights
In November 2024, we joined with our long-time friends Stephanie Pomboy and Grant Williams to co-host the Super Terrific Happy Day Conference in sunny St. Petersburg, Florida.
The conference was an opportunity to gather with like-minded individuals to exchange ideas and discuss the state of the markets. Stephanie and Grant hosted fireside chats and panels with a distinguished lineup of speakers.
- Felix Zulauf discussed his view of a world that seems to be undergoing major changes. He sees 2025 as a transition year, where the world (and the market) is on a roller coaster of “hopes and disappointments.”
- Sy Jacobs described how he managed to succeed in a long/short strategy in a time in which monetary policy has sent many stock prices to the moon and shuttered many other short investors.
- Kopernik CIO Dave Iben and Cathie Wood took the stage together for a conversation with Grant about the meaning of value. “Value” means something different to every investor, and it’s useful to challenge preconceptions about what it is (and isn’t).
- Peter Atwater’s elucidation of the role that confidence plays in decision-making gave important behavioral context for a market that has priced in absurd amounts of optimism for many years.
- Dave and Kopernik Deputy CIO Alissa Corcoran articulated several of the opportunities Kopernik is finding to take advantage of common misperceptions in the marketplace.
- Bob Rodriguez offered a colorful description of what led him to become one of the world’s foremost rare coin collectors and why rarities and hard assets present great investment opportunities.
- Sir Steven Wilkinson has the ability to take a step back and take an extremely big picture view, and he showcased that in a conversation with Grant with topics ranging from the importance of having an ownership mentality to the definition of the nation-state.
The day concluded with a live recording of Grant’s and Stephanie’s “Super Terrific Happy Hour Podcast,” which is available here. You can also gain access to the exclusive video recordings, transcripts, and more for a one-time fee.
It was invigorating to be at a gathering of thoughtful, like-minded individuals, debating nuanced ideas and challenging popular thinking on the market and investing today. We are thankful to everyone who attended.
